Supplements For C Diff, SIBO, & Gut Healing

These are my favorite supplements, digestive enzymes, and probiotics that I’ve found or tried in my long journey with several bouts of c diff, SIBO, and gut health.

Probiotics

  • Dr. Ohirra’s Probiotics (good for anyone at anytime with variety of issues or no issues – keeps you regular and provides healthy prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics)
  • Florastor (Saccharomyces boulardii lyo CNCM I-745, a unique probiotic strain that is naturally resistant to antibiotics. This was recommended to take this when diagnosed the first bout by the 3rd or 4th doctor I saw, it’s specific for c diff)
  • I have heard good things about:
    • Just Thrive
    • MegaSpore
    • Align

Digestive Enzymes

This takes a bit of trial and error to find one that works best for you. My favorite digestive enzymes are:

Supplements

No one really helped me with these, the dietitians and nutritionists would neither confirm or deny whether I should/could take them. If anything sometimes they suggested things I really couldn’t tolerate (like calcium).

  • L-Glutamine (helps with the lining of your digestive system, especially if you’re stressed!)
  • Vitamin D (where I live I need all the D I can get)
  • Iron (I take prenatal vitamins with extra iron because I’m anemic and I like them better than regular multi-vitamins)
  • Magnesium (helps you feel calm and can help with constipation too, it’s a supplement many people don’t get enough of)
  • Biotin (c diff makes me loose a lot of hair, this helps a bit)

Natural Options

I am not a doctor but I am very open minded when it comes to healing, there should be a mix of medical and holistic approaches. I don’t believe or have the evidence that natural remedies are an option to treating c diff, as it’s a seriously contagious disease that is not to be messed with – bleach is the only thing that kills this thing and medical professionals may not take it super seriously, but you should.

If you have c diff, you are responsible for stopping the spread of it. As a healthy early twenty something, I shouldn’t have gotten this monster illness but I acquired it from the community, likely someone who prepared my meal at a restaurant. I’ve been through EVERY antibiotic treatment available for c diff and I’m not someone that takes what you put into your body lightly.

Some say these natural options can help with certain c diff aspects:

  • Manuka Honey
  • Tonic Water or Quinine
  • Fermented Foods (like kefir, kombucha, sourkraut, sourdough, etc.)
  • Oregano Oil

This list will continue to be added to.
